Protect Our Neighborhood. Protect the Charles River. Protect Our Future.
The proposed Pearl Street Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) would place a large-scale lithium-ion battery facility in close proximity to a thickly settled neighborhood and environmentally fragile areas directly beside the Charles River.
Under Bellingham’s zoning standards, any project seeking "Special Permit" approval must demonstrate that it is appropriate for the site, will not be detrimental to public health or safety, will not create undue traffic, noise, visual, or environmental impacts, and will be in harmony with the surrounding neighborhood.
Residents believe this proposal raises serious concerns under those standards, including:
Its proximity to established thickly settled residential neighborhoods and family homes
Potential fire safety and emergency response risks associated with lithium-ion battery storage
Possible impacts to wetlands, groundwater, and the Charles River watershed
Noise, lighting, and visual intrusion in a quiet residential area
Traffic and access concerns for nearby roads and emergency responders
Long-term effects on neighborhood character, property values, and quality of life
Our community supports responsible clean energy, but this proposed projectis not suitable for this location!
